Deadly Choices Fraser Coast team took members of the community including Urangan State High School, Youth Justice, Galangoor Duwalami and K'Gari Cultural Tours over to K'Gari for our take on unmasking the appeal of smoking and vaping. If you or someone you know wants to give up smoking or vaping Deadly Choices at Galangoor Duwalami has the resources you need to make today the last puff you have!
Uncle Conway Burns, Uncle Bob Broome, Aunty Phyllis Freeman and Miriyan Sandy took our mob through Butchulla culture from the moment we arrived on K'Gari we were taken over to the Wongari Den for Welcome to Country and Smoking ceremony performed by Uncle Conway in language. The group yarned after this about what we felt welcome to country meant to us.
After this Uncle took the group to collect bush tucker before heading off to Basin Lake for a swim in K'Gari's green eye. The walk to the lake was amazing surrounded by nature before coming across the cool waters of the lake. After this Uncle Bob took the group to Central Station. We broke into Men's and Women's business before coming back together for a mad feed.
The cultural knowledge passed on to us by the team at K'Gari Cultural Tours was 2nd to none. The Deadly Choices team spoke about why our Mob started smoking, why we shouldn't smoke and what resources we can provide if you want to give up smoking and vaping.
